Hand-painted icon of the Guardian Angel
«Angel of God, my guardian dear»: the first prayer taught to children becomes an image. The Guardian Angel icon watches over the cradle and accompanies a child as they grow, and it is one of the most beautiful birth and baptism gifts.
How the Guardian Angel is depicted
In the iconographic tradition the Guardian Angel is shown standing or half-length, with open wings, a golden halo and luminous garments. He may hold a cross and a sword, signs of protection from evil, or hold the hand of a child or a soul entrusted to his care.
The large eyes and serene face do not express an earthly emotion, but the peace of one who always beholds the face of God (Matthew 18:10).
In the nursery
For a nursery, small and medium formats (from 12×16 to 24×30 cm) and the round panel are often chosen, fitting gently into the décor. As an alternative to the Angel, many families choose the Mother of God of Tenderness, holding her Son close.
