Those who pray together give together
Giving an icon as a community
In the East commissioning an icon is often a communal act: families, friends and communities joined together to offer God the best. Today a parish, confraternity, prayer group, class or group of colleagues can still jointly give a true hand-painted icon.

How it is organised
One contact person
One person liaises with the iconographer on behalf of everyone.
One offering
The offering, proportionate to the time and materials of the work, is agreed in advance and can be shared among the participants.
Shared stages
Photographs of each stage can be forwarded to the group: everyone takes part in the birth of the icon.
Donors' names
They can be recorded in the booklet or on the back of the panel.
Occasions
- An icon for your own church, chapel or oratory.
- A priest's ordination or anniversary.
- Farewell to a parish priest leaving the community.
- A friend's wedding, a colleague's retirement.
- In memory of a loved one, as a votive offering.
